Computers have benefited society in a myriad of ways.

At first, decades ago, those geniuses who invented

and modified the original computers had something

extremely intriguing and very constructive to do

with their considerable talents. Man had been

creating machines that were vaguely similar to

computers for a long time but tabulating machines

used during the 1890 census brought man and society

closer to the computer age. The incredible company that

manufactured those clever creatures later became IBM.

The first modern computer was born in Germany in 1941.

That creation truly began the Era of Computers. As

time passed by, computers slithered into all aspects

of society.

Computers, for the moderately wealthy and wealthy,

became status symbols. Back in 1984, my ex-boyfriend

proudly showed me his personal computer. Our

high school had a small computer club back in 1974-75.

I really wasn’t even aware that it existed until

much later when I thumbed through my old yearbooks.

While I was still in high school, my older brother

went to a technical school. He learned how to repair

computers. I was fascinated that he was able to

fix those gigantic gadgets with relative ease. He

seemed to know everything Read the rest of this entry »

The first thing you need to know with going into an Apple Store is not to buy apples. It is to buy Apple (A.K.A Mac) products. You are not going in there to find a Windows PC or just any other PC, mp3 players, phones etc. You are going in there to look for Apple products that was all started by Steve Jobs. The apple stores had well over one hundred million people that visited the stores with over $4 billion in revenue last year.(approximately) I am pretty sure that most of the computer places I visited recently wasn’t anywhere near these numbers.

If you are going in there for a computer, you should know that Apple (Mac) is different than Windows. I would say also that the software is totally different but that seems to be less and less as time goes by. I mean it is obvious that Microsoft Office is not going to run on a Mac as of yet but most software that I get as long as it is not Microsoft has Mac or Windows on the box. Yes, there are some (which may look like a lot) that are Windows based or Mac base Read the rest of this entry »

Mac Mini Review

Released: February 2006; Manufacturer: Apple Computer; Description: Small form factor Apple Mac computer system;

Specs

CPU: 1.8Ghz Intel Core2

RAM: 512MB

HDD: 80GB

OS: OS X 10.4.6

Apple computers have always been expensive little mongrels. I can’t help but think that this has always been caused by the fact that people who want to look cool buy them, not to mention that people in the graphics, photography and video industries have traditionally always used Macs (and I won’t mention that this is usually because they’re too stupid to learn how to use other computers since they’re too busy trying to look cool). But the Mac Mini is the first exception to the rule. Coming in at around $1200, this is easily the cheapest Mac ever to appear on the market – though without a monitor, keyboard or mouse, you may have to shell out a little further to get a working system. The downside here is that if you like to buy Apple peripherals, a keyboard and mouse will set you back about $150 and a nice shiny Apple 20″ monitor will blow a further $850 of your hard-earned bananas.

On the plus side though, this is probably the coolest running, quietest computer I have Read the rest of this entry »

When you have decided to buy a used laptop, your decision doesn’t end here. Again you have two options to decide from: whether a used laptop or a refurbished laptop.

A used laptop is used by a user for a long time and is sold again to you. Though a laptop is sold after one-day use immediately after purchase, it will be sold as a used laptop.

Refurbished laptops are laptops used after purchase and returned to the manufacturer or store. The manufacturer refurbishes the parts needed and again sells it as refurbished laptop. These refurbished laptops are equally good as new laptops, but you get it at a much cheaper price.

While purchasing a used laptop you have to look for three important factors in a laptop such as condition of the laptop, features available and the portability of the laptop.

The used laptop’s working condition is very important and it is advisable that you buy a laptop that is within three years old. The currently available programs and software cannot run in outdated laptops since they cannot support the recent technological features. If possible you can stick for searching laptops that are not more Read the rest of this entry »

RAM stands for Random Access Memory.

Add more RAM for a faster computer.

In its simplest terms RAM is the working memory of your computer. It is like your brain’s short term memory. As your computer runs various tasks and processes, this RAM memory begins to fill up. This ‘now’ memory allows your computer to quickly and easily do multiple tasks while bringing the data you need quickly to you.

Of course like our own STM(short term memories) our computer’s RAM can only hold so much at a time. Keep in mind that many programs and processes may be running on your computer without you being actively aware and each of these programs utilizes a small portion of RAM to run.

So adding more RAM to your computer essentially means your computer has an increased short term memory and more processes and programs can use the ‘now’ memory to carry out your computer based activities. More RAM to you means your computer programs will run smoother, you can access information quicker and do more at once without your computer slowing down, freezing up, or crashing.

By adding RAM you are in a way increasing your computer’s speed and abilities by allowing more tasks to be Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve learned how to maintain my personal computer fairly well after many years of experience and 4 personal personal computers later. Yes, it is hard at first to encounter all the trials and tribulations to your specific personal computer model type. I prefer the desk tops because I don’t want to carry it around with me given the opportunity to drop it and then falling into a million bits.

I’ve learned to maintain my personal computer by keeping them off the floor where all the dust accumulates. My girlfriend said that her’s gave out after her fan got clogged up with dust and dirt from the floor level. That is why I keep my personal computer tower on the table with my printer as well. Nothing is on the floor level where all the dust balls are.

Now that we got everything dusted off I want to proceed about habits of personal computer use. Are you one that plays more computer games? Or, are you one that downloads everything in sight? From my experience the Technical Support to my personal computer said not download anything unless I call them first. My trouble is Read the rest of this entry »

Laptops are fast becoming a necessity for professionals and students alike. Gone are typewriters, pen and papers and messy handwritings. One can easily take an office or a library anywhere he want with just a laptop.

High prices of brand new laptops however can be quite overwhelming for some people on a tight budget. So they can settle for cheaper kinds – used laptops or refurbished laptops. Used laptops are not highly recommend though, unlike refurbished laptops which are being raved on by many people today.

There are several advantages of buying Refurbished Laptop computers:

Reduced Cost: Buying refurbished laptop computers can save you 10 to 30 percent off the price of a new computer.

High Quality. Refurbished laptops go through high levels of performance standard tests at factories before they’re repackaged and sent out for selling. You are assured of a high quality laptop even though they’re refurbished.

Discounts. Usually, these refurbished laptops are offered at great discount prices for students, senior citizens, military personnel and etc. Aside from the 30 percent slash off, you can also get additional discounts!

Warranty Advantage. Oftentimes, these refurbished laptops come with longer warranty period. Normal warranties last for 1 year, while Read the rest of this entry »
